Golf Marathon Completed

8-June-2007

Waterfords have just finished a golf marathon, playing round the clock for charity.

The team of nine, led by MD Brendan Cox, completed the challenge to raise money for their chosen charity, Children With Special Needs, at midday today, Friday (8th June).

Together they reckon to have raised some £11,000 from sponsorship and pledges.

Former English football captain, Gerry Francis, had been at the Oak Park Golf Club at Crondall near Farnham on Thursday to see the players tee of their first ball of more than 100 holes.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for the charity,” said Gerry, “and Waterfords are always incredibly supportive, which is much appreciated. Especially all the effort put in by the players and organisers.”

Earlier this year Waterfords gave Children With Special Needs a cheque for £2,000 from a Swimathon they did in Farnborough.

“I am well and truly zonked,” said Brendan Cox, “But playing through the night is something else and I’m sure it’s improved my swing!”

The team of nine from offices in Chobham, Fleet, Camberley and Sunningdale played by artificial lights with luminous balls and have been practising for months. They also beat their target for funds raised last year by some way.
