The cost of chocolate is up since last Mother's Day but what about house prices?

News at Waterfords | 26/03/2019

UK mums are in for a treat from loved ones on Sunday 31st March – Mother’s Day. Mintel Global Market Research and Market Insight has estimated around £600 million was spent on Mother’s Day in 2018, with cards and flowers being the most popular gifts for mums in the UK.

For those who plan to spoil their mum rotten this weekend, how have values for other gift types fared?

Over the past year the price of cocoa beans, the key ingredient for chocolates, has risen by 15.9%, while gold is up by 6.2%. In comparison, fine wine and diamonds are slightly cheaper this year.

For those that want to really want to really splash out and treat their mother like a Queen, a UK property purchase would certainly make a more long-lasting gift. Over the past 12 months house prices have risen by 1.7% on average.

However, at £228,000, the average UK house price may be slightly more than most Mother’s Day budgets allow!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely mums out there from everyone at Waterfords. Find out how the average house price fluctuated last year in your local area below:
