Savings for energy efficient homes

Waterfords Estate Agents, selling and letting property in Camberley, Chobham, Fleet and Yateley are a Carbon Neutral business. In this article, we are pleased to see that energy efficiency is becoming more important to home buyers. This is mainly because of escalating bills and concerns about fuel security, but it will also benefit our planet too!

In his Spring Statement on 23 March 2022, the Chancellor announced the scrapping of VAT on materials and installation of energy efficiency equipment for homes. Research by HomeViews has found nearly 70% of new build owners or renters value sustainable building features.

Recycling services, energy saving measures and renewable energy features were most valued by renters and owners alike. The Future Homes Standard is set to come into effect in 2025, to ensure new homes produce 75% to 80% less carbon emissions than at present.

It is also interesting to know that homes sold with an EPC rating of A or B in 2021 achieved a 6% price premium over properties with an EPC D rating, on a £ per square foot basis.

The Energy Efficiency Infrastructure Group are lobbying for a reduction in SDLT for energy efficient properties. This is something that would see a lot of home buyers favour greener properties in the future if it were to go ahead.
